Description

Heavy-Duty Diesel Engine Cylinder Head Final Cleaning System

The Big Bird Industrial Cylinder Head Final Cleaning System is developed for final cleaning of aluminum cylinder heads used in heavy-duty diesel engine manufacturing. The system removes machining residues, chips, and cutting fluid contaminants before final assembly and supports full automatic mixed-model production.

The equipment is provided as a turnkey solution including design, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning.

Workpiece Applications

The system accommodates multiple cylinder head variants for automotive manufacturing:

Variant Material Application
Variant A Aluminum Alloy Heavy-Duty Diesel Engine Cylinder Head
Variant B Aluminum Alloy Heavy-Duty Diesel Engine Cylinder Head

All workpieces are aluminum cylinder heads for automotive engine applications. The system features a single gripper design compatible with multiple variants, requiring only minor changeover components (locating pins, fingers) for variant switching.

Automatic Mixed-Model Production

The system supports fully automatic mixed-model production with the following capabilities:

Automatic Loading/Unloading

  • Gantry robot places workpiece onto loading pallet

  • Loading slide transfers workpiece to the machine入口

  • Robot grips workpiece directly from entry position

  • Empty pallet returns to loading position for the next cycle

  • Workpiece orientation detection at loading station

Robot Gripper Design

  • SMC waterproof cylinders integrated with gripper

  • Compatible with all cylinder head variants

  • Simple changeover requiring only locating pins and fingers

  • Wear-resistant and rust-proof locating/clamping components

  • Clamping prevents workpiece deformation and surface damage

MES Communication

The system interfaces with MES for production tracking, data acquisition, and status updates.

Multi-Stage Cleaning Process

The system combines multiple cleaning technologies in a complete production sequence:

Stage 1: Loading

The gantry robot places the workpiece onto the loading pallet. The loading slide transfers the workpiece to the machine入口. The robot grips the workpiece and transfers it into the cleaning chamber. The loading station features workpiece orientation detection.

Stage 2: Turbulent Cleaning (1.5 MPa)

The robot holds the workpiece and transfers it into the turbulent cleaning tank, which has been pre-filled with cleaning fluid. The robot flexibly changes workpiece orientation while surrounding nozzles direct turbulent flow to clean all surfaces. The funnel-type tank design ensures rapid drainage of contaminated fluid and chips.

After turbulent cleaning, the drain valve opens for rapid drainage. The robot positions the workpiece at fixed nozzle panels for targeted cleaning of all surfaces.

Stage 3: Water Jacket Plug Cleaning

The robot changes workpiece orientation and positions it at large-diameter nozzles. High-flow cleaning fluid is injected into water jacket passages for thorough plug cleaning of cooling cavities.

Stage 4: High-Pressure Fixed-Point Cleaning (35 MPa, Max 53 MPa)

The robot positions the workpiece for high-pressure cleaning. The high-pressure pump (URACA, max 53 MPa, 37 kW) delivers high-pressure cleaning for:

  • Main oil gallery insertion cleaning

  • Key oil passages

  • Valve guide and valve seat areas

  • Critical machined surfaces

Stage 5: Tilt Drainage

The robot changes workpiece orientation for tilt drainage, allowing cleaning fluid to drain from all internal passages and cavities.

Stage 6: Drying

The robot places the workpiece onto the outlet conveyor pallet. The conveyor transfers the workpiece to the drying station where a drying device removes surface moisture.

Stage 7: Vacuum Drying

The workpiece and pallet are conveyed into the vacuum chamber. The upper movable hood closes with the bottom fixed hood to form a sealed chamber. The vacuum pump (Leybold) evacuates the chamber, lowering the saturated steam temperature to evaporate residual moisture from all surfaces and internal passages.

After vacuum drying, the vacuum hood opens, and the conveyor transfers the workpiece to the unloading station.

Stage 8: Unloading

The workpiece is conveyed to the unloading position. The gantry robot removes the workpiece. Empty pallets return to the loading position via the lower-layer conveyor.

Cylinder Head Final Cleaning in Automotive Manufacturing

Cylinder Head Final Cleaning in Automotive Manufacturing

Cylinder head final cleaning is a critical process between machining and assembly in automotive engine manufacturing. The complex geometry of cylinder heads—including oil galleries, water jackets, intake/exhaust ports, combustion chambers, and valve seat areas—requires advanced cleaning technologies to remove machining residues, metal chips, and cutting fluid contaminants. High-pressure cleaning systems deliver the cleaning power necessary for thorough removal of stubborn contaminants from these critical components.

High-Pressure Cleaning (35 MPa) for Cylinder Head Components

High-pressure cleaning at 35 MPa (max 53 MPa) provides superior contaminant removal for cylinder head components. The extreme pressure effectively dislodges stubborn particles from oil galleries, valve seats, and critical passages that conventional cleaning cannot reach. URACA pump technology with adjustable pressure control ensures consistent cleaning results for different component requirements.

Water Jacket Plug Cleaning Technology

Water jacket plug cleaning ensures thorough removal of contaminants from cooling passages. High-flow cleaning fluid is injected directly into water jacket passages through large-diameter nozzles, effectively flushing contaminants from complex cooling cavity geometries that conventional spray cleaning cannot reach.

Filtration and Fluid Management in Cylinder Head Cleaning

Effective filtration is essential for maintaining cleaning quality in cylinder head cleaning. Two-stage filtration configurations with drum filters and bag filters enable continuous operation with standby filter change capability. Filtration accuracy down to 20 μm ensures cleaning fluid quality is maintained, reducing recontamination risks and extending fluid life.
